INTRODUCTION
Removal, overhaul and installation procedures are covered in this article. If component removal and installation is primarily an unbolt and bolt-on procedure, only a torque specification may be furnished.
Note. Before disconnecting battery, obtain activation code to reset anti-theft stereo.
COMPONENT LOCATION
The following illustrations are provided to assist in locating components for which removal and installation procedures may not be provided. (Scheme 7)and (Scheme 8).
Scheme 7
Scheme 8
Scheme 9
- Mark spark plug wires, distributor housing and cylinder head for installation reference. Disconnect distributor 10-pin connector and spark plug wires. Remove hold-down bolts and distributor.
- Using clean engine oil, lubricate and install NEW "O" ring. (Scheme 9) Install distributor, aligning reference marks. Align distributor coupling with slot in camshaft. Connect wiring. Adjust ignition timing. Tighten mounting bolts. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(/acura/integra/iii-1993-2001/remont/removal-installation/#engine-controls-removeinstalloverhaul-except-gs-r__torque-specifications).
Removal & Installation
TDC/CKP/CYP sensors are an integral component of distributor. Distributor housing must be replaced if TDC, CKP and/or CYP sensors are faulty. See DISTRIBUTOR .
FUEL SYSTEM
| WARNING | Always relieve fuel pressure before disconnecting any fuel injection-related component. DO NOT allow fuel to contact engine or electrical components. |
FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE
| CAUTION | Before disconnecting battery, obtain activation code to reset anti-theft stereo (if equipped). |
Relieving Fuel Pressure
Remove negative battery cable. Loosen fuel tank filler cap. Place clean shop rag around fuel filter. Slowly loosen 6-mm service bolt or 12-mm banjo bolt on top of fuel filter one complete turn to relieve system pressure. Always replace washer under bolt after loosening.
Quick-Connect Fittings
Relieve fuel pressure. Check quick-connect fittings for dirt and clean if necessary. Grasp connector with one hand. With other hand, squeeze retainer tabs inward. (Scheme 10) Pull fuel lines apart.

Replacement
| WARNING | Do not smoke while working on fuel system. Keep open flame away from your work area. While replacing the fuel filter, be careful to keep a safe distance between battery terminals and any tools. |
The fuel filter should be replaced whenever the fuel pressure drops below the specified value [270 - 320 kPa, 2.8 - 3.3 kgf/cm 2 , 40 - 47 psi (B18C1 engine: 329 - 378 kPa, 3.35 - 3.85 kgf/cm 2 , 48 - 55 psi) with the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose disconnected and pinched] after making sure that the fuel pump and the fuel pressure regulator are OK.
- Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the radio, then write down the frequencies for the radio's preset buttons.
- Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery negative terminal.
- Place a shop towel under and around the fuel filter.
- Relieve fuel pressure. See «FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE»(/acura/integra/iii-1993-2001/remont/removal-installation/#engine-controls-removeinstalloverhaul-except-gs-r__fuel-system-pressure-release)
- Support the fuel filter with a wrench, as shown, then remove the 12 mm banjo bolt and the fuel feed pipe from the fuel filter.
- Remove the fuel filter clamp and fuel filter.
- When assembling, use new washers, as shown. NOTE: Clean the flared joint of high pressure hoses thoroughly before reconnecting them.
- Reconnect the battery negative cable, enter the antitheft code for the radio, then enter the customer's radio station presets.

POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)
Note. PCM may be referred to as ECM.
Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove right door sill molding and right kick panel. Pull carpet back to expose PCM cover. Remove PCM cover. Disconnect electrical connectors. Remove PCM. To install, reverse removal procedure.
Removal
- Relieve fuel pressure. See «FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE»(/acura/integra/iii-1993-2001/remont/removal-installation/#engine-controls-removeinstalloverhaul-except-gs-r__fuel-system-pressure-release) . Disconnect injector electrical connectors.
- Disconnect vacuum hose and fuel return hose from pressure regulator. Disconnect fuel line from fuel rail. Remove fuel rail retaining nuts and fuel rail. Remove injectors from intake manifold.
Scheme 12
- Slide NEW cushion rings onto injectors. Install NEW "O" rings coated with clean engine oil onto injectors. Insert injectors into fuel rail. Align marks on injectors with corresponding marks on fuel rail. (Scheme 12)
- Coat NEW injector seal rings with clean engine oil. Insert rings into intake manifold. Install injectors and fuel rail assembly onto intake manifold. Replace fuel line-to-fuel rail washers. Tighten fuel line-to-fuel rail nuts. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
- Pressurize fuel system by turning on ignition with engine off for 2 seconds. Repeat fuel pressurizing procedure 3 times. Check for fuel leaks.
To locate oxygen sensor (Scheme 7)under COMPONENT LOCATION. Oxygen sensors are equipped with a permanent pigtail which must be protected from damage when sensor is removed. Ensure sensor is free of contaminants. Avoid using cleaning solvents of any type. Sensor may be difficult to remove when engine temperature is less than 120°F (48°C). Always use anti-seize compound on threads before installation. Tighten sensor to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS.
Disconnect throttle cable at throttle body. Label and disconnect hoses and wiring from throttle body. Drain coolant. Remove retaining nuts or bolts and throttle body. To install, reverse removal procedure.
THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR
Note. Throttle Position (TP) sensor can only be serviced by replacing throttle body.
THROTTLE CABLE ADJUSTMENT
Throttle cable is correctly adjusted when cable deflection is 0.39-0.47 (10-12 mm) measured between throttle link and cable bracket. If deflection is not as specified, loosen lock nut and turn adjusting nut until deflection is as specified. After adjustment is completed, ensure throttle valve fully opens when accelerator pedal is pushed to floor.
