DESCRIPTION

WARNINGDeactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM article. DO NOT apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.

The cruise control unit receives command signals from cruise control main switch and cruise control SET/RESUME switch. Cruise control unit receives vehicle operating information from brakelight switch, Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS), and clutch switch (M/T) or A/T gearshift position switch (A/T). Ignition Control Module (ICM) also provides operating information to cruise control unit.

The cruise control unit compares actual vehicle speed to selected speed. Throttle is either opened or closed based upon this comparison. A signal from the brakelight switch will disengage system when brakes are applied. The clutch switch, gearshift lever position switch, and cancel switch will also send disengage signals to cruise control unit.

OPERATION

Cruise main switch is energized when ignition switch is in ON or START position. Cruise control unit is energized when cruise main switch is in ON position. Cruise control system maintains speeds greater than 25 MPH. To set, press SET switch at desired speed. Pressing main switch to off will cancel cruise control system operation and erase vehicle speed from memory.

If system is disengaged temporarily by brakelight switch, clutch switch or gearshift lever position switch, press RESUME switch. Pressing RESUME switch will automatically return vehicle to previous set speed. Pressing and holding RESUME switch will gradually increase vehicle speed without having to press accelerator pedal. When RESUME switch is released, system is reprogrammed for new speed.

For gradual deceleration without pressing brake pedal, press and hold SET switch until desired speed is reached. When desired speed is reached, release SET switch.
