DESCRIPTION & OPERATION
Nippondenso 3-phase generators use 4 positive and 4 negative diodes to rectify current. An internal Integrated Circuit (IC) voltage regulator controls charging system voltage. Amperage rating is 75 amps.

PRELIMINARY INSPECTION
Check generator wiring harness connections and drive belt tension. Ensure battery is fully charged. Check fuses. See CHARGING SYSTEM FUSE LOCATIONS table. Replace fuse(s) as necessary. Turn ignition on. Charging system light should come on. If charging system light does not come on, check for blown charging system light bulb and replace as necessary.
| Application | Location |

| Fuse No. 24 (15-Amp) | Underdash Fuse/Relay Box |
| Fuse No. 39 (50-Amp) | Underhood Fuse Box |
| Fuse No. 41 (100-Amp) | Underhood Fuse Box |
CHARGING SYSTEM FUSE LOCATIONS
CHARGING SYSTEM LIGHT
- Perform «PRELIMINARY INSPECTION»(/acura/integra/iii-1993-2001/remont/charging-system/#generators-regulators__preliminary-inspection). Repair or replace any components as required. Measure voltage at generator 4-pin connector terminal No. 1 (Black/Yellow wire). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Black/Yellow wire.
- Turn ignition on. Charging system light should come on. If charging system light comes on, go to next step. If charging system light does not come on, check for faulty bulb or open in White/Blue wire. Repair or replace components as necessary.
- Start engine. Charging system light should turn off. If charging system light stays on, go to next step. If charging system light turns off, charging system light circuit is functioning properly.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect generator 4-pin harness connector. Ground terminal No. 3. (Scheme 1) Turn ignition on. If charging system light is on, turn ignition off and go to next step. If charging system light is off, repair open in White/Blue wire.
- Remove White/Blue wire from generator 4-pin connector. Recheck charging system light operation. If light remains on, go to next step. If light goes off, test and repair generator components. See «BENCH TESTING»(/acura/integra/iii-1993-2001/remont/charging-system/#generators-regulators).
- Disconnect Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) control module 26-pin connector, located behind under-dash fuse box. Turn ignition on. If charging system light is on, repair short to ground in White/Blue wire. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/acura/integra/iii-1993-2001/remont/charging-system/#generators-regulators). If charging system light does not come on, substitute known good ABS control module and retest system. If system functions properly, replace faulty ABS control module.

GENERATOR/REGULATOR OUTPUT TEST
- Test system using a generator tester with carbon pile. Hook up tester according to manufacturer's instructions. Start engine and operate at 3000 RPM until radiator fan comes on, then let engine idle. Increase engine speed to 2000 RPM and hold. Observe voltmeter. If voltage is more than 15.1 volts, replace voltage regulator.
- If voltage is 15.1 volts or less, return engine to idle. Ensure all accessories are off. Connect inductive pick-up over generator terminal "B" (battery terminal wire). (Scheme 1) Ensure arrow on inductive pick-up points away from generator.
- Increase engine speed to 2000 RPM and hold. Observe voltmeter. If voltage is 13.5 volts or more, go to next step. If voltage is less than 13.5 volts, test and repair generator components as necessary. Repeat voltage test.
- While observing ammeter, apply load with generator tester carbon pile until battery voltage drops to 12-13.5 volts. If less than 60 amps exist, go to next step. If 60 amps or more exist, charging system is functioning properly. CAUTION: Voltage will increase rapidly during full field test. DO NOT allow voltage to exceed 18 volts. Damage to electrical system may result.
- With engine speed still at 2000 RPM, full field generator. Insert test probe into full field access hole, located on back of generator. (Scheme 1) If 60 amps or more exist, system is operating properly. If less than specified amperage exists, test and repair generator components. See «BENCH TESTING»(/acura/integra/iii-1993-2001/remont/charging-system/#generators-regulators).
ROTOR
Ensure rotor bearings rotate smoothly. Using ohmmeter, check continuity between slip rings and rotor, individually. Check continuity between slip rings and rotor shaft, individually. (Scheme 2) If continuity exists, replace rotor. Check continuity between slip rings. If continuity does not exist, replace rotor.
Scheme 2
STATOR
Using ohmmeter, check continuity between stator leads. (Scheme 3) If continuity does not exist, replace stator. Check continuity between stator leads and coil core. If continuity exists, replace stator.
Scheme 3
RECTIFIER DIODES
Note. Use an ohmmeter capable of checking diodes.
- Check for continuity between rectifier assembly terminal "B" and terminals P1-P5, and between terminals "E" and P1-P5. (Scheme 4) Note ohmmeter reading.
- Reverse leads, and repeat test. Continuity should exist only in one direction. If continuity is not as specified, replace rectifier assembly.

TROUBLE SHOOTING
Note. See TROUBLE SHOOTING - BASIC PROCEDURES article in the GENERAL TROUBLE SHOOTING section.
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
| CAUTION | Before disconnecting battery, obtain activation code to reset anti-theft radio. |
Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove battery and battery tray, if necessary. Remove adjusting rod and bolt. Remove lower adjusting bolt and remove belt. Remove upper adjusting bracket. Disconnect generator 4-pin harness connector and terminal "B" (White wire). Remove generator. To install, reverse removal procedure.
Remove rear cover. Remove 2 brush holder retaining screws. Remove brush holder. Ensure brushes slide smoothly in holder assembly. Check brush holder and brushes for cracks or other damage. Minimum brush length should be .06" (1.5 mm). If brushes are damaged or worn, replace brush holder assembly. To install, reverse removal procedure.
OVERHAUL
Note. Refer to illustration for exploded view of generator. (Scheme 5)
