INTRODUCTION
Before performing any on-vehicle adjustments to fuel or ignition system, ensure engine mechanical condition is okay.
VALVE CLEARANCE
- Cylinder head temperature must be less than 100°F (38°C). Remove valve cover, timing belt covers and distributor cap.
- Align pointer on timing belt lower cover with TDC (White mark). The UP marks on both camshaft pulleys should be at the top of cam gears. Distributor rotor should point to No. 1 spark plug wire on cap. Adjust valves on cylinder No. 1.
- Rotate crankshaft counterclockwise 180 degrees to bring No. 3 piston to TDC on compression stroke. Adjust valves on cylinder No. 3.
- Rotate crankshaft counterclockwise 180 degrees to bring No. 4 piston to TDC on compression stroke. Adjust valves on cylinder No. 4.
- Rotate crankshaft counterclockwise 180 degrees to bring No. 2 piston to TDC on compression stroke. Adjust valves on cylinder No. 2. VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT (1) Valve In. (mm) Intake 006 (.15) Exhaust .007 (.19) (1) Valves can only be adjusted cold.
Scheme 1
Scheme 2
- Run engine until cooling fan comes on. Locate Light Gray connector at right side (under dash), next to blower motor. Connect terminals of the ignition timing adjusting connector with a jumper wire. (Scheme 1)
- Red mark on crankshaft pulley should align with pointer. (Scheme 2) If Red mark and pointer are not aligned, adjust base ignition timing by turning distributor. See «IGNITION TIMING»(/acura/integra/ii-1989-1993/remont/adjustments/#engine-controls-adjustments) table. Remove jumper wire from ignition timing adjusting connector. IDLE SPEED & MIXTURE
Note. Idle Mixture adjustment is NOT a part of normal tune-up procedure and should not be performed unless mixture control unit is replaced, or vehicle fails emissions testing.
Scheme 3
- Start engine and operate until cooling fan comes on. Connect tachometer. Disconnect 2-wire connector from Electronic Air Control Valve (EACV). (Scheme 3)
- Check base idle speed with gear in Neutral (A/T in "N" or "P") and all accessories off, including cooling fan. Turn screw to adjust base idle speed. (Scheme 3)
- Turn ignition off. Reconnect 2-wire EACV connector. Remove hazard fuse at battery positive terminal for 10 seconds to reset ECU. Start engine and allow to idle for one minute.
- Check idle speed with engine under load (with A/C and without A/C), and under no load. Idle speed should be 700-800 RPM. See «IDLE SPEED SPECIFICATIONS»(/acura/integra/ii-1989-1993/remont/adjustments/#engine-controls-adjustments) table.
