Scheme 8: Removal Procedure
  1. Install the engine support fixture. Refer to «Engine Support Fixture»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/mechanical/#engine-mechanical-36l-repair-instructions-on-vehicle__engine-support-fixture) .
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/ignition-switchsteering-lock/#general-information__lifting-and-jacking-the-vehicle) .
  3. Remove the front wheels. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels) .
  4. Remove the front fascia. Refer to «Front Bumper Fascia Replacement»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumpers-and-fascias) .
  5. Tie the radiator, air conditioning condenser, and fan module assembly to the upper radiator support to keep the assembly with the vehicle when the frame is lowered.
  6. Disconnect the left and right stabilizer links from the strut assemblies. Refer to «Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) .
  7. Disconnect the tie rod ends from the steering knuckles. Refer to «Steering Knuckle Replacement (GNB)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) , «Steering Knuckle Replacement (GNA)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) .
  8. Remove the two steering gear retaining bolts. Refer to «Steering Gear Replacement (NJ1)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/manual-power-steering/#power-steering-system) , «Steering Gear Replacement (NV7)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/manual-power-steering/#power-steering-system) .
  9. Using mechanics wire suspend the steering gear from the powertrain.
  10. Remove the front exhaust pipe. Refer to «Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (LFX)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) , «Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (LUK)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) .
  11. On AWD vehicles, remove the propeller shaft. Refer to «Propeller Shaft Replacement»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/driveshaft-universal-joints/#propeller-shaft) .
  12. Remove the front transmission mount through bolt (1).
  13. Remove the rear transmission mount bolts (3).
  14. Separate the lower ball joints from the steering knuckles (1). Refer to «Lower Control Arm Replacement (GNB)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) , «Lower Control Arm Replacement (GNA)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) .
  15. Remove the electrical harness and the power steering cooler line from the clips in the frame (2).
  16. Mark the location of the frame using spray paint for correct positioning during installation.
  17. Carefully lower the vehicle until the frame contacts the support table.
  18. Remove the frame reinforcements. Discard the frame reinforcement to body bolts. Do Not discard the cradle bolts.
  19. Remove the two rear frame to body bolts.
  20. Remove the two front frame-to-body bolts.
  21. Carefully raise the vehicle to separate the frame from the body.
  22. If replacing the frame, transfer components as necessary.

Installation Procedure

  1. Carefully lower the vehicle until contacts the frame assembly and is correctly positioned within the spray painted areas.
  2. Install the frame retaining bolts then tighten the bolts to 160 N.m (118 lb ft).
  3. Install the frame reinforcements with NEW bolts and then tighten the bolts to 60 N.m (44 lb ft) plus 30 degrees.
  4. Remove the mechanics wire and install the steering gear. Refer to «Steering Gear Replacement (NJ1)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/manual-power-steering/#power-steering-system) , «Steering Gear Replacement (NV7)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/manual-power-steering/#power-steering-system) .
  5. Install the electrical harness and the power steering cooler line to the clips in the frame (2).
  6. Connect the ball joint studs to the steering knuckles (1). Refer to «Lower Control Arm Replacement (GNB)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) , «Lower Control Arm Replacement (GNA)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) .
  7. Install the rear transmission mount through bolt (1) and tighten to 100 N.m (74 lb ft).
  8. Install the front transmission mount bolts and nut then tighten to 100 N.m (74 lb ft).
  9. Untie the radiator, air conditioning condenser, and fan module assembly from the upper radiator support.
  10. Connect the left and right stabilizer links to the strut assemblies. Refer to «Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) .
  11. Connect the tie rod ends to the steering knuckles. Refer to «Steering Knuckle Replacement (GNB)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) , «Steering Knuckle Replacement (GNA)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) .

  14. Remove the engine support fixture.
  15. Install the front fascia. Refer to «Front Bumper Fascia Replacement»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumpers-and-fascias) .
  16. Install the front wheels. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels) .
  17. Lower the vehicle.
  18. Check the wheel alignment.

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/ignition-switchsteering-lock/#general-information__lifting-and-jacking-the-vehicle) .
  2. Remove the rear tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels) .
  3. Remove the rear muffler assembly. Refer to «Exhaust Muffler Replacement (Single)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) , «Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LFX)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) .
  4. Disconnect the stabilizer shaft from stabilizer shaft links. Refer to «Stabilizer Shaft Replacement (GNC)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) , «Stabilizer Shaft Replacement (GNE)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  5. Remove the park brake cables from the support. Refer to «Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement (J71)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/parking-brake-system/#parking-brake-system) .
  6. Remove the lower control arms from the vehicle. Refer to «Rear Axle Lower Control Arm Replacement (GNC)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) , «Rear Axle Lower Control Arm Replacement (GNE)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  7. Remove the adjust links from the from the vehicle. Refer to «Adjust Link Replacement (GNC)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) , «Adjust Link Replacement (GNE)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  8. Remove the upper control arm inner fasteners. Refer to «Rear Axle Upper Control Arm Replacement (GNC)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) , «Rear Axle Upper Control Arm Replacement (GNE)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  9. Position a transmission jack under the rear support and firmly secure the support to the jack with straps.
  10. Mark the location of the frame using spray paint for correct positioning during installation.
  11. Remove the support bolts and discard them.
  12. With the aid of an assistant, lower the support from the transmission jack stand.
  13. Remove the stabilizer shaft from the rear support.
  1. Install the stabilizer shaft assembly on to the support. Refer to «Stabilizer Shaft Replacement (GNC)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) , «Stabilizer Shaft Replacement (GNE)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  2. With the aid of an assistant, position the rear support onto the transmission jack and firmly secure the support to the jack with straps.
  3. Carefully lower the vehicle until contacts the frame assembly and is correctly positioned within the spray painted areas.
  4. Install the NEW support bolts and tighten to 90 N.m (66 lb ft).
  5. Tighten the support bolts an additional 120 degrees + 15 degrees.
  6. Remove the transmission jack stand.
  7. Install the upper control arm inner fasteners. Refer to «Rear Axle Upper Control Arm Replacement (GNC)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) , «Rear Axle Upper Control Arm Replacement (GNE)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  8. Install the adjust links to the support. Refer to «Adjust Link Replacement (GNC)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) , «Adjust Link Replacement (GNE)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  9. Install the lower control arms. Refer to «Rear Axle Lower Control Arm Replacement (GNC)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) , «Rear Axle Lower Control Arm Replacement (GNE)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  10. Install the park brake cables to the rear support. Refer to «Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement (J71)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/parking-brake-system/#parking-brake-system) .
  11. Install the rear muffler assembly. Refer to «Exhaust Muffler Replacement (Single)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) , «Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LFX)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system)
  12. Connect the stabilizer shaft links to the stabilizer shaft. Refer to «Stabilizer Shaft Replacement (GNC)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) , «Stabilizer Shaft Replacement (GNE)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  13. Install the rear tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels) .
  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Realign the rear suspension. Refer to «Wheel Alignment Measurement»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/wheel-alignment/#wheel-alignment-system__wheel-alignment-measurement) .

  2. Remove the tires and wheels. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels) .
  3. Remove the exhaust muffler. Refer to «Exhaust Muffler Replacement (Single)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) , «Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LFX)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) .
  4. Remove the park brake cables from the support. Refer to «Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement (J71)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/parking-brake-system/#parking-brake-system) .
  5. Remove the shock absorber lower fastener. Refer to «Shock Absorber Replacement (GNE)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) , «Shock Absorber Replacement (GNC)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  6. Remove the rear wheel hub brackets. Refer to «Rear Wheel Hub Bracket Replacement (GNE)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  7. Remove the lower control arms from the vehicle. Refer to «Rear Axle Lower Control Arm Replacement (GNC)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) , «Rear Axle Lower Control Arm Replacement (GNE)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  8. Remove the upper control arms from the vehicle. Refer to «Rear Axle Upper Control Arm Replacement (GNC)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) , «Rear Axle Upper Control Arm Replacement (GNE)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  9. Remove reinforcement arm bolts (1) to body.
  10. Remove the outer fastener adjustment links. Refer to «Adjust Link Replacement (GNC)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) , «Adjust Link Replacement (GNE)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  11. Remove the rear wheel drive shafts. Refer to «Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/axle-shafts/#wheel-drive-shafts) .
  12. Remove the differential carrier assembly. Refer to «Differential Carrier Assembly Replacement»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/differentials-drive-axles/#rear-drive-axle) .
  13. Position a transmission jack under the rear support and firmly secure the support to the jack with straps.
  14. Mark the location of the frame using spray paint for correct positioning during installation.
  15. Remove the 4 rear support to body bolts (1).
  16. Remove the rear support assembly from the vehicle.
  17. Remove the inner fastener from adjustments links. Refer to «Adjust Link Replacement (GNC)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) , «Adjust Link Replacement (GNE)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  18. With the aid of an assistant, remove the rear support from the transmission jack and place it on the floor.
  1. With the aid of an assistant, position the rear support onto the transmission jack and firmly secure the support to the jack with straps.
  2. Install the inner fastener to adjustments links. Refer to «Adjust Link Replacement (GNC)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) , «Adjust Link Replacement (GNE)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  3. Carefully lower the vehicle until contacts the frame assembly and is correctly positioned within the spray painted areas.
  4. Install 4 NEW rear support to body bolts (1) and tighten to: First Pass: 90 N.m (66 lb ft) Second Pass: plus 180 degrees Final Pass: plus 15 degrees
  5. Install the differential. Refer to «Differential Carrier Assembly Replacement»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/differentials-drive-axles/#rear-drive-axle) .
  6. Install the rear wheel drive shafts. Refer to «Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/axle-shafts/#wheel-drive-shafts) .
  7. Install the outer fastener adjustment links. Refer to «Adjust Link Replacement (GNC)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) , «Adjust Link Replacement (GNE)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  8. Install NEW reinforcements arm bolts (1) to body and tighten to: First Pass: 150 N.m (111 lb ft) Second Pass: plus 30 degrees Final Pass: plus 15 degrees
  9. Install the upper control arms. Refer to «Rear Axle Upper Control Arm Replacement (GNC)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) , «Rear Axle Upper Control Arm Replacement (GNE)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  10. Install the lower control arms. Refer to «Rear Axle Lower Control Arm Replacement (GNC)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) , «Rear Axle Lower Control Arm Replacement (GNE)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  11. Install the rear wheel hub brackets. Refer to «Rear Wheel Hub Bracket Replacement (GNE)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  12. Install the shock absorber lower fastener. Refer to «Shock Absorber Replacement (GNE)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) , «Shock Absorber Replacement (GNC)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  13. Install the park brake cable. Refer to «Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement (J71)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/parking-brake-system/#parking-brake-system) .
  14. Install the exhaust muffler. Refer to «Exhaust Muffler Replacement (Single)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) , «Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LFX)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) .
  15. Install the tires and wheels. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels) .
  16. Check the rear alignment. Refer to «Wheel Alignment Measurement»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/wheel-alignment/#wheel-alignment-system__wheel-alignment-measurement) .

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/ignition-switchsteering-lock/#general-information__lifting-and-jacking-the-vehicle) .
  2. Remove the tires and wheels. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels) .
  3. Remove the exhaust muffler. Refer to «Exhaust Muffler Replacement (Single)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) , «Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LFX)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) .
  4. Remove shock absorber lower fastener. Refer to «Shock Absorber Replacement (GNE)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) , «Shock Absorber Replacement (GNC)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  5. Remove rear springs. Refer to «Rear Spring, Insulator, and Jounce Bumper Replacement (GNE)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  6. Disconnect the electrical connection.
  7. Remove reinforcement arm bolts (1) to body.
  8. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to «Propeller Shaft Replacement»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/driveshaft-universal-joints/#propeller-shaft) .
  9. Position a transmission jack under the rear support and firmly secure the support to the jack with straps.
  10. Mark up support position to body with spray paint.
  11. Remove the 4 rear support to body bolts (1).
  12. Remove the rear support assembly from the vehicle.
  13. With the aid of an assistant, remove the rear support from the transmission jack and place it on the floor.
  14. Remove the washers from the front bushings.
  15. Drill through rubber bushings with drill 8 mm. See applicable diagram.
  16. Remove the bushings by placing CH-48377-1 drift mandrel between bushings and wall of rear axle and drift out.

Note. When transferring any suspension components, refer to each suspension component replacement procedure for the proper torque specifications.

  1. Locate the front bushings as shown in the picture.
  2. Position the rear bushings in the frame.
  3. Use the DT-49126-10 tool (1), CH-50196 tool (3) and the CH-49233 tool (2), install the bushing.
  4. With the aid of an assistant, position the rear support onto the transmission jack and firmly secure the support to the jack with straps.
  5. Position the rear support assembly to the vehicle.
  6. Install 4 NEW rear support to body bolts (1). Tighten Tighten to 90 N.m (66 lb ft) + 180 degrees + 15 degrees.
  7. Connect the electrical connection.
  8. Install rear springs. Refer to «Rear Spring, Insulator, and Jounce Bumper Replacement (GNE)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  9. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to «Propeller Shaft Replacement»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/driveshaft-universal-joints/#propeller-shaft) .
  10. Install NEW reinforcements arm bolts (1) to body. Tighten Tighten the bolts to 150 N.m (111 lb ft) + 30 degrees + 15 degrees.
  11. Install shock absorber lower fastener. Refer to «Shock Absorber Replacement (GNE)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) , «Shock Absorber Replacement (GNC)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  12. Install the exhaust muffler. Refer to «Exhaust Muffler Replacement (Single)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) , «Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LFX)»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) .
  13. Install the tires and wheels. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels) .
  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Check the rear alignment. Refer to «Wheel Alignment Measurement»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/wheel-alignment/#wheel-alignment-system__wheel-alignment-measurement) .

  1. Separate the frame from the body approximately 70 mm. Refer to «Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Replacement»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#frame-and-underbody) .
  2. Remove the bushings using a CH-49384 remover/installer (2).
  1. Locate the front bushings as shown.
  2. Install the bushings using CH-49384 remover/installer.
  3. Install the frame to the body. Refer to «Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Replacement»(/buick/lacrosse/ii-2009-2013/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#frame-and-underbody) .
